Sustainable Development Education

Sustainable Development Education
The Shell Center for Sustainability has four key sustainability-related education initiatives:
- Support interdisciplinary research related to sustainability
- Serve as an independent public forum for open discussion and constructive dialogue on sustainable development issues and policies across a broad spectrum of stakeholders
- Develop new engineering and scientific curricula to educate an upcoming generation of students who will incorporate sustainability concepts into future business plans, designs and processes
- Link Rice students to opportunities both within and outside of the university that enhance their knowledge of
sustainability
The Center has supported several studies and projects undertaken by Rice students on key sustainability issues. These include:
- Development of a course on sustainability and the energy industry.
- Lessons learned from the implementation of the Clean Air Act ozone standards in Houston, 1970-2005.
- Stakeholder relations research related to energy production and conservation in Pinedale. Wyoming.
- Sustainability practices of a Houston-based chemicals company
